If there is one thing I cannot abide are horticultural snobs. Does it frankly matter if a plant is pronounced one way or another? Of course not!

I’m currently working on a whole range of projects including gardens all over England and Europe as well as America and other parts of the world. Recent projects have included the redesign of the famous Rose Gardens at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire, a delightful courtyard in central London as well as a superb garden just outside Bristol, which includes a fabulous water staircase, pleached Hornbeam Walk and split-level terraces.

I am at present writing my 23rd book entitled ‘The New Suburban Garden’. This traces the history and development of these unique and fascinating spaces and is based around our own garden, shown in the illustration, that we are presently creating.

As usual I shall be running weekend garden design and planting courses at Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland. Barnsdale was of course the late Geoff Hamilton’s famous BBC Gardeners World garden and I filmed there many times. Geoff was a good friend and it is always a pleasure to run my courses in his gardens, now run so ably by his son Nick. ‘Please do contact Barnsdale for more details, dates and times.’

I am teaching a number of courses over the coming year, so just drop me an e-mail if you would like more details. Click here
